Curriculum
Opening Time - We will start each day with a 15 minutes lesson focused on what it means to be a follower of Jesus. One day a week, we will be using Pastor Joey's "Jesus Said Club" curriculum for Middle Schoolers. This is a curriculum he wrote and is being used in schools all around the world! During this time, we learn all about what Jesus said and did, so we can follow His example. The other day of we will be using character studies from Not Consumed, using scripture, journaling, and discussion to be more like Christ.
Living Memoirs - We are very excited for this new class with our middle schoolers this year! We will be having guests from a variety of career paths come and share with our middle schoolers about their career journey, as well as how their faith impacts their life at work. Students will be learning about active listening skills, note taking, and making the most of question and answer time. We're so excited for all that they'll be learning about during this class period.
Bible - Students will be learning about the names of God during Bible class this year. They will be discovering more about His character, and how we can reflect His character through how we live. They will also spend time each class in journaling and practicing copywork of scripture.
Science - We will be using the science units from The Good and the Beautiful for our lessons this year. We will be covering the topics of Marine Biology, Motion and Simple Machines, and Health and the Physical Body. Click HERE for a list of extension activities you can do at home to further your child's learning about these topics.
Math - We will be using Gina Wilson's All Things Algebra for Pre-Algebra and Algebra I this year. We will be covering the content in class, along with games and review practice. We will send home daily homework assignments, quizzes, and tests, along with answer keys so you can grade your child's work at home. The homework and related assignments remain optional, although recommended for your child to be sure they stay on track as they move into more advanced math.
Language Arts - We will be doing a few book studies this year during our language arts time. Students will have assigned reading to do on the off days, then class time will be spent in book-club style discussion. We'll also incorporate copywork and dictation and discuss related grammatical concepts and literary elements from those selections. We'll celebrate the end of each unit with a book-themed party! We'll also be working on monthly writing projects to continue growing our essay and report-writing skills.
